Breaking News: Alabama Transfer Lands $212.4 million Four Year Contract

Alabama Crimson Tide and current Miami Dolphins quarterback, has agreed to a new contract that will make him the NFL’s third most paid quarterback, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Tagovailoa’s four-year, $212.4 million contract includes a $167.1 million guarantee, making it the richest contract in Dolphins history.

Since being picked fifth overall by the Dolphins in 2020, Tagovailoa has progressed year after year, culminating a career year in 2023 when he led the NFL in passing yards with 4,624 yards and set a career high in touchdown passes with 29. His record-breaking season was rewarded with his first Pro Bowl selection.

Tagovailoa’s deal is also significant in the fact that he is only the second Dolphins quarterback since 2000 to sign a multiyear extension with the franchise.

The Dolphins have made the playoffs twice under Tua, 2022 (a game that he did not play in due to injury), and 2023 where they lost to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs 26-7 in one of the coldest games in NFL history.

Tagovailoa played for the Crimson Tide from 2017 to 2019, cementing himself as one of the best players to ever wear the crimson and white.

During his time in Tuscaloosa, he guided the Tide to a national championship victory in 2018 (the 2017 regular season), where he notably came off the bench to replace Tide QB Jalen Hurts and secured the win.

Tua’s contract is the third one signed by quarterbacks in the league this offseason. Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff inked a $212 million deal, and Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence agreed to a $275 million contract.
