The Detroit Tigers have announced a series of roster transactions, including a sad statement involving right-hander Reese Olson, who has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury. This is a huge blow to the pitching staff as the season continues.
Reese Olson’s Injury and Impact
Reese Olson left his start against the Blue Jays after only two innings on Saturday due to a strained right shoulder. Olson stranded runners with double-play grounders throughout his two shutout innings, allowing only two singles and one walk. He threw 30 pitches, 16 of which were strikes, before being replaced by right-handed pitcher Alex Faedo in the third inning. Olson was looking for his fourth consecutive win, having beaten Cincinnati and Cleveland before the All-Star break and the Chicago White Sox on June 23.
Olson, 24, started the season 0-5 in his first nine outings but has since improved dramatically. He arrived in Toronto with a 4-8 record and a 3.30 ERA in 18 starts during his second major league season with the Tigers. This injury is a huge setback for both Olson and the Tigers as they navigate the rest of the season.
