Breaking News: Gerrit Cole Gets Honest About His Outing On Friday

After shedding some rust in his first few starts of the season, New York Yankees Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole has returned to form in his last two starts, holding the Tampa Bay Rays to one run over six innings in Friday’s 6-1 victory to begin the second half of the season.

The victory improved Cole’s record to 3-1 on the season and reduced his ERA to 4.60, and Cole spoke with the media following the game.

When asked about his performance, Cole stated, “I had a little bit of everything working” and added, “Once we got a lead, we started attacking the zone.”I’d like to get those outs more effectively, but overall, everything went well today.”

Cole struck out eight Rays and walked one on his way to allowing only one run, the third time in his past four starts he was able to keep his opponent to a single run.

The Yankees have suffered terribly over the last six weeks or so, and a lot of it has started with the starting rotation, as Carlos Rodon, Luis Gil, Marcus Stroman, and Nestor Cortes have all taken turns getting pummeled after everyone started the season on a hot streak.

Cole’s next scheduled start is against the New York Mets, and he’ll be seeking for some vengeance after the Mets lit him up for four walks and four home runs en route to his first loss of the season.
