Breaking: Rutgers confirm the departure of another top talented star

Another Scarlet Knight is no longer on the board.

On Monday afternoon, the Cleveland Guardians took Rutgers left-handed pitcher Donovan Zsak with the 235th overall pick in the eighth round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Zsak now joins Josh Kuroda-Grauer as Scarlet Knights who have been chosen. Kuroda-Grauer was selected as the 75th overall choice by the Oakland Athletics.

Zsak joined the Scarlet Knights after being a top prospect at St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen. According to Perfect Game, Zsak is the 173rd overall prospect in the Class of 2022 and the 24th left-handed pitcher. He was also the sixth-best prospect in New Jersey coming out of high school.

Zsak had a successful senior season on the mound after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Zsak pitched 21.2 innings, striking out 49 and posting a 0.97 ERA.

In 2024, Zsak made 19 appearances for Rutgers, finishing with a 3-1 record and a 4.11 ERA in 35 innings. He struck out 39, walked 20, and held opponents to a.186 batting average. Zsak’s mid-90s fastball and strong off-speed drew attention from teams at the next level.
