Nebraska football added another commitment to its list of June official visits when 2025 Ridge Point (Texas) defensive back Bryson Webber revealed his decision to commit to the Huskers.
Webber, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 180 pounds, chose the Huskers over TCU and Utah, giving Matt Rhule’s program a rangy defensive back with a certified 100-meter time of 10.5 seconds.
Nebraska was among the first to offer Webber, just as he was transitioning from wide receiver to cornerback. The position change has paid off, and the Huskers were leading the way in believing it would.
“As a receiver, you always get the ball, but as a defensive back, you can make a play on every drive,” he told Husker247. “It’s just real cool to be able to do that and knowing that you can just impact a game by yourself alone.”
Webber never forgot the Huskers’ early belief in him.
Former Nebraska secondary coach Evan Cooper was among the first to voice his confidence in him as a defensive back. Then Webber developed deeper links with the program, which was obviously important given that John Butler was now in charge of the secondary.
The majority of the defensive staff paid him a personal visit at his high school this spring, and he was struck by the “true brotherhood” he believed players had when his OV to Lincoln the third weekend of June. That has been a fruitful official visit weekend for Nebraska. Jeremiah Jones and Houston Kaahaaina-Torres have since committed to the Big Red, and linebacker Will Hawthorne is still in the mix.
“I know for a while he had no transfers out of Nebraska, so just seeing how much the players even value being there,” Webber told Husker247 about Rhule’s program. “Because you’re not just playing football; you’re receiving an education, and the fan base is incredible. So there are many benefits to being a Husker.”
Before making his statement, Webber told Husker247 that he spoke with Butler, the incoming Husker secondary coach, on Thursday.
During his formal visit, Webber stated that the Huskers discussed the idea of him shifting to safety in college based on his growth when he comes in Lincoln. Obviously, that can be resolved over time, but he would prefer to be here sooner rather than later.
Webber, a three-star prospect with an overall rating of 87 on 247Sports, plans to enroll in January.
The prospect has also stated that Nebraska employs many defensive tactics that he is familiar with, as well as an intriguing utilization of the rover.
“So I know the defense going into it would be really similar,” he told me. “So I know it won’t take long to adjust to.”
