BREAKING: Dallas Stars confirm the signing of another top experienced star to two-year deal

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reports that the Dallas Stars have signed defenseman to a two-year, $7.5 million contract.

The transaction has an average annual value of $3.75 million.

Dallas also announced the re-signing of forward Matt Duchene to a one-year, $3 million contract, as well as the signing of defenseman Nils Lundkvist (one-year, $1.25 million contract), forward Sam Steel (one-year, 1.2 million contract), and defenseman Brendan Smith (one-year, $1 million contract) as free agents.

Duchene, 33, scored 25 goals and 65 points in 80 games for the Dallas Stars last season. He has two goals and six points in 19 playoff games before his team was ousted by the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals.

The 6-foot-1 centre signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Stars in July 2023 after the Nashville Predators bought him out of his seven-year, $56 million contract previous offseason.

Duchene was drafted third overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2009. He has 341 goals and 809 points in 1,056 career games with the Avalanche, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Predators, and Stars.

The native of Haliburton, Ontario, won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia. He also represented his country in six World Championships, winning two gold medals in 2015 and 2016 and a silver medal in 2017.

Duchene also won gold for Canada at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey in Toronto.

Dumba, 29, concluded last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning after being traded from the Arizona Coyotes for a draft selection at the deadline.

In 76 games with the Coyotes and Lightning, the 6-foot right-shot defenseman scored four goals and added 12 points. He did not score in the Lightning’s five-game loss to the Florida Panthers in the first round of the playoffs.

Dumba is coming off a one-year, $3.9 million contract signed with the Coyotes in August 2023.

The Minnesota Wild drafted Dumba seventh overall in 2012, and he has 83 goals and 248 points in 674 career games with the Wild, Coyotes, and Lightning.

The Regina, Saskatchewan native represented Canada at the 2016 World Championship, scoring a goal and an assist in ten games en way to a gold medal.

Lundkvist, 23, got two goals and 17 assists in 59 games last season, totaling 19 points.

Smith, 35, scored five goals and 15 points in 63 games for the New Jersey Devils last season.

Steel, 26, scored nine goals and 24 points in 77 games for Dallas in 2023-24.
