Rutgers Football is blazing a hot trail in recruiting, securing a key addition with The Hun School linebacker Kamar Archie. Archie’s recruitment journey began over three years ago when he was a freshman at Ewing High in New Jersey before transferring and reclassifying into the 2025 class at Hun in Princeton. He made his official visit to Rutgers on the weekend of June 14th.
Rutgers outcompeted several powerhouse programs, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, Washington, and Wisconsin. This level of recruitment success seemed unimaginable before Greg Schiano’s return to Piscataway in December 2019, where he began rebuilding the struggling program.
As of July 5th, 2024, the Scarlet Knights are celebrating a winning season that concluded with a Pinstripe Bowl victory over the Miami Hurricanes. They currently boast a Top-15 recruiting class. The 6-foot-1, 228-pound Archie, already physically ready for college football, will add to a formidable Rutgers defense known for its toughness and activity. He joins other four-star New Jersey recruits, including running back John Forster, offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews, and linebacker DJ McClary, who flipped from Penn State to Rutgers in June.
Archie brings exceptional speed, honed from his track background, to the 2025 unit, a key attribute in defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak’s system. Hun head coach Todd Smith commends Archie for his work ethic and team-first mentality, qualities that align perfectly with Schiano’s program values.
Quotable
“Kamar Archie is the most physically gifted player I’ve ever coached.” He has great size, speed, and power, allowing him to dominate football games on both sides of the ball as a linebacker or running back. His outstanding work ethic is visible, as he continually strives to improve each day. Kamar isn’t frightened of hard effort and constantly pushes himself to improve. Furthermore, he is an excellent teammate and natural leader (source: Rivals).

With the addition of Archie, Rutgers now has three linebackers committed for the 2025 class, bringing the total to 29.
