The top linebacker from Houston, Texas, has verbally committed to the Texas Tech football program.
After a month of intense recruiting, the Texas Tech football program is poised to reap the benefits in the class of 2025. On Monday, the program signed one of its top recruits, linebacker Kaleb Burns from Houston, Texas.
247Sports.com ranks the 6-foot, 220-pounder as the No. 59 linebacker in America and the No. 81 player in Texas. He is now the seventh-highest-rated player in the Red Raiders’ 2025 recruiting class.
In addition to Texas Tech, Burns has received offers from Baylor, SMU, TCU, Tennessee, Houston, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Utah, and other schools. He paid an official visit to Lubbock on June 14, and he has now joined the Red Raider family.
Burns made 73 tackles this season, including 18.5 for a loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles, and an interception. Burns also competes in track and field events such as the 100- and 200-meter sprints and shot put.
This is Texas Tech’s second linebacker of the current recruiting cycle. Brock Golwas, a 3-star linebacker from Flower Mound, Texas, committed to the Red Raiders back in January.
Only six of the Red Raiders’ current 17 players in the Tech class play defense. That’s why having a guy of Burns’ caliber is critical.
Currently, the Red Raiders’ class ranks 29th nationwide. In the Big 12, it ranks fourth after TCU, West Virginia, and Oklahoma State. However, with additional promises expected in the coming days and weeks, that ranking is certain to increase.
