BREAKING: NC State Lands Commitment For Another Top Star

The Wolfpack have now shored up the corner infield places ahead of the 2025 season.

As you can see from the picture, Matt Ossenfort, a Vanderbilt transfer first baseman, has committed to NC State baseball. Ossenfort will have three years of eligibility left, although he will be a draft-eligible sophomore in 2025. Based on his playing time in 2024, he could be eligible for a redshirt that season, becoming a redshirt freshman in 2025 with four years of eligibility remaining.

The 6’3, 218-pound lefty was a reserve for the Commodores as a freshman in 2024, batting.182/.250/.545, 8.3 BB%, 50.0 K%, and 0 SB in just 12 plate appearances across 6 games, including three starts.

Those three starts all came in late March, and his final appearance in a Vandy uniform was on April 9th in a pinch-hitting effort.
Ossenfort was a top 350 prep player who attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and played alongside Devin Fitz-Gerald, one of the Pack’s top commitments for the entering 2024-2025 freshman class. Hopefully, that friendship will persuade Fitz-Gerald to turn down MLB draft offers and come to Raleigh.

Tim Corbin, Vanderbilt’s head coach, said this about Ossenfort in his Vandy bio:

Matt comes to us with a good hitting ability. He is a versatile hitter who possesses power and uses the entire field. I admire his potential inside our program. Ozzie is a highly competitive player who aspires to be good. He is a friendly young man with an inquisitive mind. It was a lot of joy to coach.

D1 Baseball complimented Ossenfort’s power in their 2023 Fall Report on the Commodores. In the summer between high school and college, he dominated the Cal Ripken Collegiate League, hitting.376/.480/.693, with a 16.5 BB%, a 17.3 K%, 4-4 SB, and 8 HR off collegiate pitching over 28 games. Obviously, such stats are considerably more reflective of his abilities.
