Breaking News: UW Huskies head coach resigns

The University of Washington Huskies are looking for a new head coach. He has left the team after two years to become coach at Texas A&M.

Washington athletic director Pat Chun confirmed the announcement in a written statement issued  on UW baseball’s social media accounts.

“Earlier today, Jason Kelly informed the UW that he was resigning as head baseball coach to accept a coaching position at another institution,” Chun explained in his statement. “Jason made numerous contributions to our baseball program and university during his tenure as either head coach or assistant coach. We wish him success in his new endeavor.”

Kelly was the Huskies’ head coach for the past two seasons following the retirement of previous coach Lindsay Meggs, and he led the team to the NCAA regionals in 2023. The Huskies struggled in 2024, finishing 19-31-1.

Kelly formerly served as pitching coach at five different colleges, including Washington (2013-19), Arizona State (2020-21), and LSU (2022).

Kelly rejoins new Aggies head coach Michael Earley, who previously served as Arizona State’s hitting coach during Kelly’s time there. Earley was named A&M’s next head coach on Sunday, taking over for Jim Schlossnagle, who led the Aggies to the College World Series championship last week before leaving to become the head coach at Texas.

Chun stated that Washington has “already launched a national search” for the program’s next head coach, who will take over for the Huskies in their first season in the Big Ten conference after leaving the Pac-12.

According to Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball, University of San Diego coach Brock Ungricht is a possible contender for the UW Huskies’ head coaching position.
