The Wolfpack was the first Power 4 club to offer Gibbs last summer, which had a long-term impact on the in-state lineman. Between the Pack’s early adoration for him and the friendship he had with Garret Tujague, Gibbs visited Raleigh on a regular basis and always had State at or near the top of his list.
“I really like coach Tujague,” Gibbs stated last fall. “He’s a wonderful person with a lot of character. I enjoy the way he does things. I spoke with him a lot last weekend when I visited. He enquired about the playoffs and how I was doing. He told me to continue doing what I was doing. He stated that I have greatly improved since camp. He’s a genuinely nice guy.”
Gibbs eventually received offers from Penn State, Virginia Tech, Duke, Virginia, USF, Appalachian State, and a few other schools. He is now the starting left tackle at Hoggard, but is projected to move to guard at the next level when he gets in Raleigh.
Gibbs has quickly developed into one of the state’s top offensive linemen, currently ranked as the No. 23 overall player in North Carolina with a high three-star rating. Despite all of the offers and growth he’s demonstrated, the Pack has remained committed to keeping his interest in NC State strong.
“I love (NC State),” Gibbs stated last fall. “First, I attended the junior day, and both my parents and I admired the coaches’ ideals and morals. And then there’s game day, which is really selling it right now. I am a State fan. It began last summer when I attended their camp. I truly enjoy their curriculum, facility, and coaching staff.
Pack Pride will have more on Gibbs’ committment soon.
