Veteran Alabama player tells teammates he’s ‘tired of losing’ with Tide

Malachi Moore keeps the standard high at Alabama after a College Football Playoff trip last season.

Malachi Moore is one of just four players from Alabama’s 2020 national championship team, along with Quandarrius Robinson, Tim Smith, and Jah-Marien Latham. Those four, along with Michigan transfer safety Keon Sabb, are the only Alabama players with national championship rings.

Moore won that ring more over three years ago, in January 2021, and he’s ready for another. Moore, who served as team captain last season, told his teammates about it this spring.

Malachi Moore reveals Alabama's defensive mantra

“We were breaking a huddle, and one of our players, Malachi Moore, was breaking the huddle for the team,” wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard said during a Wednesday morning interview on Tide 100.9. “And he says, ‘Everyone, get in here. “Get in here!”

Moore said, according to Shephard: “Hey, listen, let me tell you something: I’m tired of losing around here! “I am tired of losing around here!”

“I looked at one of our other assistants and I said, ‘I think they won 12 games last year?'” Shephard informed Wimp and Barry Sanderson. “To be honest, that’s when things truly came into focus and gave me a feeling of where I was. In that moment, it clicked, and I exclaimed, ‘Yep, we’re in Alabama.'”

Alabama finished 12-2 last season, won the SEC championship, and advanced to the College Football Playoff for the third time in four seasons. However, the Tide’s three-season hiatus (2021-23) without a national championship was the first under Nick Saban, who won his first title with Alabama in his third season, in 2009.
