Dylon Worthen of IMG Academy (Fla.) EDGE has committed to East Carolina’s 2025 recruiting class, adding another high-potential and athletic athlete to the defensive front. The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder returned from an official visit to ECU this weekend.
Rico Zackery, the outside linebackers and defensive ends coach at ECU, extended Worthen an offer on April 9. Blake Harrell, the defensive coordinator, also recruited him. Worthen, who could play ‘RUSH’ outside linebacker or defensive end in ECU’s scheme, made a commitment to the coaching staff during his visit this weekend.
IMG Academy is one of the nation’s finest prep football schools. Every year, the prep school produces several Division I prospects, Worthen being one of the most recent. Ernie Logan, a former ECU defensive lineman, now coaches the defensive line at IMG.

Worthen had numerous major offers during his recruitment, including Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisville, USF, and West Virginia as a sophomore, before adding UCF, FIU, Georgia Southern, East Carolina, and others during the spring evaluation period.
Worthen has a three-star EDGE rating from 247Sports and an overall grade of 86. He is considered the 78th-best EDGE in the country and the 121st-best player in Florida, a talent-rich state. Worthen’s commitment represents the 18th overall promise of the 2025 recruiting class, and the third from the state of Florida. Worthen, along with fellow Sunshine State prospects Tavius Horne and Eddie Love Jr., are three of the top four most highly rated players on the team’s current commitment list. The class is presently ranked in the Top 75 nationally and third best in The American, trailing only USF and Florida Atlantic University.
Worthen’s reps increased as a junior after competing on the IMG Academy national team in 2022, when he was moved from inside linebacker to standup outside linebacker. Worthen had five sacks, including a strip-sack, a few tackles for loss against the run, and multiple quarterback hurries. Last season, IMG Academy finished 10-0, including a 17-14 victory over St. Frances Academy in the season finale.
Worthen is one of five commits on ECU’s 2025 roster who are expected to play on defense, along with teammate EDGE Zion Cooley and defensive lineman Amari Wilson, Dominick Moody, and Josiah Dwyer.
