Breaking News: USC priority target finally sets commitment date

USC had one last shot at Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley edge Marco Jones…

Marco Jones, Danville (Calif.) San Ramon Valley edge, will make his final official visit to USC.

With a decision expected in the first week of July, Jones completed a busy schedule that included visits to Michigan, Texas A&M, Texas, and USC on consecutive weekends.

The Trojans from their home state were given one last chance.

“My official was pretty good,” Jones explained.

Jones particularly enjoyed spending time with the USC defensive line coaches, Shaun Nua and Eric Henderson.

“I think one thing that stood out the most was the passion that coach Henny and coach Nua have with coaching,” according to Jones.

Jones is an admirer of Riley’s defensive staff.

“I met with all of the coaches in the official,” Jones disclosed. “I believe Coach Riley is assembling a formidable defensive coaching staff, and they provide valuable knowledge to each player. The conversations with the coaches were positive. For the most part, the focus was on their enthusiasm for the game and how far they believe they can push my game.”

He was hosted by two Trojan defenders.

“My hosts were Devan (Thompkins) and Mason (Cobb),” Jones told me. “I hung out with Jared Smith, Trajen Odom and Elijah Griffin on the visit.”

Jones is a Bay Area native, but his father played high school football in the Southland, and he has family in Los Angeles.

“I think Los Angeles is a great city and the facilities that are being built are incredible,” Jones went on:

Jones will now work to reach a decision.

“I most likely will not name final schools but it is still up in the air,” Jones told reporters.

Jones, a four-star in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, is the No. 14 recruit nationwide and the No. 11 recruit in California for 2025.
