Breaking News: Florida Gators lands commitment for another standout star

The 5-star quarterback, committed to Florida State during his unofficial visit.

The coaching staff at Florida State football expects many highly ranked prospects to visit campus in Tallahassee this weekend. Many of the recruits were from the 2025 recruiting cycle. Many Seminole fans focused entirely on that category of prospects.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, the Seminoles have the 70th-best recruiting class. Fans are growing weary of arch rivals Miami and Florida making pledges.

The Seminoles have not received a commitment in the 2025 class since four-star defensive end Javion Hilson transferred from Alabama in January, when iconic head football coach Nick Saban departed.

The program had a combined 23-4 record in the last two seasons. Head football coach Mike Norvell has had long-term success with the program. You’d expect that the winning culture would draw top prospects to the university.

Things took a favorable turn on Saturday afternoon when Class of 2026 five-star quarterback Brady Smigiel of Newbury Park, California committed to Florida State. We recently posted about Smigiel’s unofficial visit with the Seminoles this weekend.

The gifted signal-caller has been on the Seminoles’ coaching staff’s radar for some time, and Florida State extended an offer to him on January 17, 2023. Despite being from California, Smigiel is making his second visit to Florida State in two months.

I understand that some people dismiss 2026 potential, but this is a major issue for the Seminoles’ program’s future. During his two seasons as a starter at Newbury Park, Smigiel has 7,701 yards, 98 touchdowns, and only 25 interceptions.

Brock Glenn, Luke Kromenhoek, Trever Jackson, Tramell Jones Jr. (assuming he continues to his commitment), and now Brady Smigiel form the Seminoles’ future quarterback core. When it comes to quarterback recruitment, the coaching staff has hit its groove.
