Keelon Russell, an Alabama football quarterback pledge, was voted MVP of the Elite 11 Finals on Thursday. The three-day program concluded Thursday in California with a 7-on-7 showcase, in which Russell excelled, according to several accounts.
Russell reversed his decision to join Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide earlier this summer. The 2025 prospect initially committed to SMU.
Following his MVP triumph, the 6-foot-3, 180-pound signal-caller honored the Elite 11 on social media. He was the first Alabama commit to earn the award since Tua Tagovailoa in 2016.

“Really nice to spin it vs the top dudes in the country,” Russell wrote. “I also want to thank everyone for displaying affection. This is only the beginning; we expect many more in the future.”
Russell is a four-star recruit from Duncanville, TX. Russell is ranked sixth among quarterbacks in the 2025 class by the 247Sports composite.
He has lead Duncanville to two consecutive state championships. Russell passed for 3,483 yards and 38 touchdowns last year.
Thank you @Elite11 for this chance, real nice to spin it vs the top dudes in the country. Also want to say thank you to everyone for showing love . This process is just the beginning we are headed for plenty of more down the road. #mvp

“Accurate to the first two levels and gets the ball out fast,” 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins said of Russell. “Slides about the pocket with supple movement patterns and possesses the quickness and agility to convert scrambles into backbreaking gains.
At this point, he’s more of a one-read anticipatory thrower, but he’s willing to plant his flag and take a hit while scanning the field. Has also proven to be a rather efficient distributor on the go, with touch-to-drop passes into tight windows. Should be regarded as one of the most promising signal callers for the 2025 cycle.”
The Elite 11 is the nation’s premier quarterback showcase. Julian Sayin was the event’s MVP last year, and he attended Alabama before transferring to Ohio State after Nick Saban retired.
