Ground Breaking: Texas Tech Are Signing A New Head Coach

Gerry Glasco has accepted Texas Tech’s invitation to become the Red Raiders’ new head softball coach.

Glasco’s departure comes a week after pitching coach Justin Robichaux announced his departure to become St. Thomas More’s head baseball coach.

Shellie Landry and Hunter Veach remain on the full-time workforce. Both were hired by Glasco, but only Veach had a prior connection to Glasco before coaching at UL.

Ironically, Landry served as the program’s interim head coach when Michael Lotief was fired in 2017.

Glasco’s decision comes one month after Baylor defeated the Ragin’ Cajuns in the NCAA Lafayette regional finals. Rounding Third Softball reports that is set to be named Texas Tech’s next softball coach on Thursday.

Glasco just finished his sixth season at UL with a record of 302–88. This past season, UL finished 45-19 overall and 22-2 in Sun Belt play.

In 2023, Glasco led the Cajuns to the super regionals for the first time in his career. A year later, UL hosted a regional for the first time in seven years, but fell one win short of qualifying for super regional play.

During his seven years, Glasco helped UL extend its national-best Sun Belt series winning record to 89 straight conference series.

Craig Snider, Texas Tech’s head softball coach, went for Tennessee on June 9, soon after former UL assistant coaches Chris and Kate Malveaux left Tennessee to become co-head coaches at Auburn.

Snider was the head coach at Texas Tech for the previous two years.

Glasco inherits a program that went 60-43 during Snider’s two seasons, including 29-21 this spring.

The transfer site closed earlier this week, but once a coach leaves, UL players will have a 30-day period to try the platform.
