Breaking: Indiana land commitment for another talented star

Zacharey Smith, a 2025 defensive back from Georgia, has committed to the Indiana football program.

Zacharey Smith, a Georgia prospect, stated today that he has committed to the Indiana football team on his official visit. The 6-foot, 170-pound talent from Hapeville Charter Career Academy in Atlanta is the second cornerback to pledge to head coach Curt Cignetti and his staff for the 2025 recruiting class.

Smith, who had previously committed to Pittsburgh, picked IU over Auburn, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, SMU, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Akron, Appalachian State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Marshall, South Florida, Temple, and Austin Peay.

Smith made his first trip to Bloomington for spring practice in March, and he told Peegs.com why he was so interested in the Hoosiers.

“The coaching staff and the love they showed me compared to other programs,” Smith replied when asked what distinguishes IU. “My relationship with the staff has been great.”

The Atlanta native stated that the Indiana staff is quite impressed with what he brings to the cornerback position.

“They said that they love my ball skills,” he said of the message from the IU coaches.

Last season, Smith had 19 tackles, three interceptions, including one he recovered for a score, and two tackles for loss. For Hapeville Charter Academy, he also plays offense as a receiver and returns on special teams.
