Breaking: Cal lands commitment for another top talented star

Cal signs a quarterback for its 2025 recruiting class. On Tuesday night, Los Alamitos’ three-star quarterback Alonzo Esparza revealed his commitment to Cal.

The California Golden Bears have signed a quarterback for the 2025 class. Alonzo Esparza, a three-star quarterback from Los Alamitos High School in California, revealed his commitment to Cal on Tuesday night.

Esparza chose Cal over previous offers from Arizona State, Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Oregon, Purdue, Texas A&M, Charlotte, FIU, Louisiana-Monroe, and San José State.

Esparza has an 83 rating in the 3-Star tier on 247Sports and a.8429 score in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite rankings. According to the Composite rankings, he is the No. 83 quarterback in the country and the No. 105 recruit from California.

Esparza competed in the Elite 11 Regional Camp in Las Vegas in May. Greg Biggins of 247Sports wrote about him: “Although a bit under 6-0, Esparza possessed one of the liveliest arms in the camp. He’s a strong youngster, especially in his lower body, and he threw as hard as we’ve seen him.”

Cal fills the quarterback position in the 2025 recruiting class following a recent decommitment. Robert McDaniel, a three-star quarterback from Hughson (Calif.), committed to California in March but then decommitted in May. He promptly renewed his allegiance to Arizona.

247Sports has tracked 14 scholarship offers from Cal to quarterbacks in the 2025 recruiting class.

At this time, only two other positions are still open for recruitment: Ewa Beach (Hawaii), James Campbell 3-Star Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele and 3-Star Daphne (Alabama). Jamar Malone received a three-star rating.
