Texas Tech has signed another transfer , the head coach gave the announcement.
“We are pleased Hailey has chosen to be a Red Raider! Her growth over the last several years has been phenomenal, as seen by her results at the top of the lineup. We felt Hailey was the right match from the moment she arrived on campus, and we are very happy about the team we have for next season!” Herendeen spoke.
Murphy is coming off a standout sophomore season with the Grizzlies, when she mostly played court one singles for Montana. The Calgary, Alberta native helped the Grizzlies win the Big Sky regular-season crown, going 6-2 in conference play.
During that period, Murphy had an undefeated singles record on the top court, going 8-0 in Big Sky matches and receiving unanimous Big Sky MVP and First Team honors. She had an overall singles record of 22-5 for the season, including a 16-3 dual record. In addition, she went 12-1 on court one and 4-2 on court two, finishing her sophomore year on a 10-match winning streak.
Murphy had 11 wins in doubles, seven of which came in dual matches. She was awarded to the All-Big Sky Doubles Second Team after predominantly playing court one doubles, where she won seven matches and went 4-4 in Big Sky competition.
Murphy had a strong showing in the ITA Mountain Regionals singles back draw this fall, reaching the semifinals with victories over players from Wyoming, Colorado, Utah State, and Utah, all without dropping a set. Murphy advanced to the Round of 16 in the regional doubles main draw, defeating Utah (8-5) and Air Force (8-4).
Murphy earned her first Big Sky Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors in the spring after helping Montana go undefeated in singles against Sacramento State and Northern Arizona.
In her freshman season, the Academic All-Big Sky selection went 16-14 in singles, with the majority of her matches played at court three. She won five matches there, plus two more on court two. She was chosen All-Big Sky Honorable Mention Doubles after winning 13 matches overall and going 5-2 in conference play. She went 8-2 in court three doubles.
Murphy will join the Lady Raiders as a junior, with two more years of eligibility.
