Oregon State have added another international player on Wednesday when Danish center Elisa Mehyar joined with the Beavers.
Mehyar has international experience, having played for SISU Copenhagen and Denmark’s U18 team in the 2022 European Championships. She will be a true freshman in the 2024-25 season.
“We are thrilled that Elisa Mehyar chose to be a Beaver,” Oregon State head coach Scott Rueck remarked. “She is a great defender and shot-blocker with exceptional shot-blocking abilities. She has excellent agility and runs the floor quite effectively. Elisa has excellent hands and finishes beautifully around the rim. She will be an excellent fit for our culture, and we are thrilled that she has chosen to be a member of Beaver Nation!”
“I chose Oregon State because it is a great fit where I have the perfect opportunity to grow and develop as a basketball player and as a person,” Mehyar stated. “Everyone I met on my visit were so good to me, and Coach Rueck and his staff helped me feel the family atmosphere immediately.”
The incoming freshman is a force on the glass, averaging 6.9 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game for the Danish U18 team. Mehyar was the team’s second-best rebounder, with four straight games of eight or more boards in the classification and group stages. She also blocked two shots per game, including a five-rejection effort against Romania.
As an amateur with SISU Copenhagen, Mehyar came off the bench and was fourth on her squad in rebounding, grabbing 4.1 rebounds per game, while ranking second in shot-blocking with 0.7 rejections per game. She shot 46.3% from the field.
Mehyar is the third addition to the Oregon State program in 2024-25. She joins a long list of European centers that thrived in Corvallis, including Marie Gulich, Jelena Mitrovic, and Joanna Grymek, among others.
