Breaking: Duke Blue Devils Confirm Return of Former Star

The former Blue Devil is proving the definition of the brotherhood.

One of the nicest weeks of the summer has come for the Duke basketball team, with former and current players returning to Durham for the annual K Academy.

In terms of The Brotherhood, it’s similar to the annual family reunion.

People may view the players who spent the entire season in the NBA, as well as some of the others who graduated from the Blue Devils program and moved on to the next chapter of their careers.

More importantly, it allows current players — often freshmen — to speak with former program stars and pick their brains about life at Duke and how to advance in their basketball careers.

The entire Blue Devil recruiting class, freshmen and transfers, is in Durham this week, with the exception of Patrick Ngongba II, who was recently named to the USA Basketball U18 roster and will compete in the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup this weekend.

However, former two-time captain Jeremy Roach is still on campus this week and will not be playing for Duke.

Roach, who had one year of eligibility remaining, used the transfer portal to commit to Baylor. There were reports of a $1.5 million NIL package that the Bears offered him, but Roach rejected that sum on social media.

Nonetheless, it’s heartening to see that such an important figure in Duke basketball over the last four years is still welcome back in Cameron, despite the fact that he’ll be playing for another club next season.

The Blue Devil social media pages did not expressly promote Roach, although he can be seen in the background in images shared on the first day of camp.

Of the photographs that were shared, Jeremy Roach was the only Duke player that entered the transfer portal this offseason to attend K Academy. He was one of only two scholarship players on the Mike Krzyzewski-coached squad last season.

Jaylen Blakes, the other player coached by Krzyzewski, entered the portal as a graduate transfer and is the only one of the seven who chose to transfer who has not committed to a new school.

The Duke basketball social media crew will be posting more footage from the K Academy throughout the week, so keep an eye out for who might be in the photographs and videos.
