The star’s 2024 season is in doubt according to Brent Pry after suffering an injury in spring practice.
Last season, Tucker Holloway became a crucial contributor for the Virginia Tech special teams as a punt returner. In fact, his season was so successful that he was voted third-team All-ACC punt returner. After a great season returning kicks, head football coach Brent Pry says his 2024 season is in jeopardy.
Pry stated Monday that Holloway had a right knee injury in the spring and is iffy for the 2024 season this autumn.
“He’ll be questionable for the season. And I say that because of the injury and I say that because he has a redshirt available, which he and I have already discussed, and we [will] kind of just let things play out and see what direction we go.”
The junior is also a depth piece at wide receiver, but with a lot of retention at that position, the loss is mitigated if Holloway is unable to play. Stephen Gosnell, Ali Jennings, Da’Quan Fleton, and Jaylin Lane will all return for quarterback Kyron Drones in 2024.
Last season, Holloway averaged 12.9 yards per return, good enough to rank in the top ten nationally. He had one long of 66 yards and three others that were 20 yards or longer. If Holloway is unable to play, Pry stated that Lane had prior experience returning punts at Middle Tennessee State before moving to Virginia Tech. He was fourth nationally in 2021, averaging 14.5 yards per return.
Injuries are the one thing that could derail the Hokies in 2024. Again, if Holloway is unable to participate, Lane is an experienced punt returner to consider. Here’s hope Holloway can return in 2024, since he proved how crucial he was in the return game last season, setting up the Hokies for solid field position.
