Luke Fickell has scored another victory on the transfer portal trail, as sought defensive lineman hasĀ committed.
Lane represents the Badgers’ 16th transfer commitment in the 2024 cycle.
He is the eighth defensive transfer and the third defensive lineman. Lane is not the only Wisconsin FCS transfer on the defensive line, as the other two are also making the move.
Lane is 247Sports’ second-best remaining defensive line transfer.
The much sought-after FCS transfer has taken a long road. Lane was a three-star edge rusher from Kansas City when he graduated high school. He received scholarship offers from elite FCS colleges as well as half a dozen Group of 5 organizations. He decided to attend South Dakota State.
Lane played only one game as a freshman and did not record any stats. He was still recognized as the Scout Team Player of the Year for the Jackrabbits. Lane featured in only three games in 2021, making one tackle each. Following the 2021 season, Lane transferred to Stephen F. Austin.

Lane played in seven games during his rookie season with the Lumberjacks. During those seven games, he recorded 11 tackles, two and a half tackles for loss, and a sack. Then he broke out in 2023. Lane appeared in all 11 games for SFA and recorded 44 tackles, six and a half tackles for loss, and one and a half sacks. He recovered a fumble during the win over Northwestern State.
Lane returned to the transfer portal after his breakout and had offers from hundreds of Power 4 programs. He initially committed to Michigan State on April 26.
Then he resigned in a “mutual parting of the ways” (May 2). Lane then committed to Louisville (May 20), before flipping again to Washington (May 24).
The coveted FCS transfer comes with two years of eligibility remaining. He joins a defensive line that requires depth heading into 2024. In a room that had lost eight transfers, Fickell and his staff scored a significant win with the Wisconsin FCS transfer.
