Newcastle United is likely to be active in the transfer market this summer.
It remains to be seen how far Newcastle can go in a rumoured planned revamp of Eddie Howe’s squad due to FFP restrictions, although there has been speculation of a major overhaul.
Indeed, the previous season was a trying one for St James’ Park. While there were some brilliant moments, the club struggled to maintain consistency.
Howe’s team was stretched in virtually every way possible due to an ongoing injury crisis, so reinforcements would be greatly appreciated.
Lloyd Kelly and Tosin Adarabioyo of Bournemouth and Fulham, respectively, are rumored to be close to joining Newcastle in an effort to improve the defensive ranks.
Given the dramatic drop-off in defending this season compared to Howe’s entire first season in charge, that feels like significant progress.
However, the defence is not the only aspect of the squad that may benefit from improvement.
With both Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron out, the frontline may use some reinforcements.
Eddie Howe has now told Newcastle staff to start looking in-depth at Morgan Gibbs-White
According to GIVEMESPORT, Howe has given the recruitment department at Newcastle a mission.
They believe that the Newcastle manager has directed those in charge of player recruiting to begin evaluating Gibbs-White’s performance for Forest last season.
Surprisingly, they think that the former Wolves player might serve as cover and competition for Joelinton in midfield.
Tottenham are also interested, but Newcastle are believed to be debating whether to make a move.
Morgan Gibbs-White already has something Eddie Howe will love
Gibbs-White has proven himself in the Premier League after some remarkable performances for a Forest team facing relegation for much of the season, and he appears to be a natural fit under Howe.
On paper, it appears to be a good choice, given he is still young enough to improve and has already gained some valuable experience at the highest level.
Gibbs-White has ten Premier League assists last season while also scoring five goals. In Newcastle’s team, that would place him first and sixth, respectively.
Being able to play in a variety of positions would also likely appeal to Howe, who has publicly said how much he loves versatility in a player.
