Bills QB Josh Allen Drops 3-Word Assessment of Team’s Top Rookie

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen admires his new teammate Keon Coleman’s excitement.

At OTAs this week, the teammates had the opportunity to work together on team drills for the first time, on May 21. Speaking to reporters afterward, Allen heaped accolades on the team’s top rookie.

“He loves football,” Allen stated on the team’s official website.
Allen stated Coleman’s enthusiasm for the game was evident at their first session together.

“I think that’s the first and most important thing you learn about him. He enjoys this game and its complexities, and it’s entertaining to be around,” Allen added.

Josh Allen Shares Praise for Teammate

Allen was drawn to Coleman by more than simply his zeal for football. The Bills quarterback also praised the wide receiver’s physical abilities, which were on display during passing drills.

“He moves and jumps. He’s 6-4. “I thought he could run some routes pretty well,” Allen stated.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that, while Coleman provides a lighthearted attitude to the club, he is serious on the field.
“I have found certainly that playful, fun person, but also a focused young man that is here to play football and help this team any way that he can,” McDermott stated.

More New Teammates for Josh Allen

The Bills’ air attack will look very different this season after the loss of the team’s top two wide receivers, Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis. Allen stated that he has spent some time getting to know the other new wide receivers, which include veterans Curtis Samuel, Chase Claypool, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

“Just talking and chopping it up with different guys in the locker room, I know it sounds weird, but just sitting with different guys in the cafeteria and getting to know them and their families,” Allen continued. “I genuinely believe, and I’ve stated it many times over the years, that having that relationship off the field pays off on the field. There’s no difference now.

I believe there is a greater sense of intention and attention on it now.”

Allen also played an active part in bringing free agent Valdes-Scantling to Buffalo. The Bills quarterback invited Valdes-Scantling to his home for supper, along with practice squad quarterback Shane Buechele and offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

According to the team’s official website, the group addressed where the former Kansas City Chiefs receiver would fit into the offense.

Valdes-Scantling ultimately signed with the Bills, telling reporters on Tuesday that Allen’s personal appeal played a significant role in his choice.

“We connected right away,” Valdes-Scantling added. “Typically, when you come on a visit, you go out to lunch with the staff and talk to them. But Josh was like, “Nah, I want you to come over to our house.”

Allen also expressed his admiration for Valdes-Scantling’s outlook on the game.

“He’s very smart, he sees things through the lens of a quarterback,” Allen stated. “Just again, utilizing his experience and trusting what he has to say and just trying to build a rapport with him.”
