Shawn Elliott, South Carolina’s tight ends coach, offered Preston Douglas just before the end of March.
Douglas, an unranked tight end from Florida, spent two days with the Gamecocks before to last month’s Garnet and Black spring game. On Wednesday, he revealed preparations to make an official visit.
South Carolina is now set to welcome him over the weekend of June 7.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pound recruit has more than 20 offers, including from Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina State, Syracuse, and Wake Forest. Douglas, who attends The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, Fla., currently has only one formal trip planned.
Douglas caught 23 catches for 405 yards and eight touchdowns in seven games as a junior at Jupiter High School in Florida. He recorded 28 defensive tackles, nine of which were for loss, and one sack.
Douglas will prioritize one factor over others as he progresses through the recruiting process.
“It’s important for me to develop a strong bond with the instructors and have common aims. It’s the people who make the place, so I’m looking for nice individuals and players, as well as a decent program that fits what’s going on there. They will not only improve me as a player, but also as a person,” he stated.
South Carolina hosts several 2025 hopefuls for formal visits. The weekend Douglas will be in town, and four of them are rated four stars: Defensive end Isaiah Gibson (Warner Robins, Ga.), offensive tackle Juan Gaston (Atlanta), defensive back Jontae Gilbert (Atlanta), and defensive tackle Kevin Wynn (Greensboro, Ga.). Brian Rowe (Concord, N.C.) and Damarcus Leach (Abbeville, S.C.) are both three-star recruits. Christopher Hatfield, a three-star defensive back from Ludowici, Ga., and unranked linebacker AJ Holloway, from Buford, Ga., will also pay visits.
