Indiana Hoosiers Confirm the Departure of Another Top Experienced Star

Indiana basketball sniper, is heading overseas to Italy to begin her professional career after announcing on social media. Sara Scalia has signed a deal with Magnolia Campobasso in Campobasso, Italy, for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Despite being one of the nation’s greatest 3-point shooters last season, the 5-foot-10 guard was passed over in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She set the IU single-season program record for 3-pointers made with 103, shooting 42.7 percent from the outside. Along with former IU player Mackenzie Holmes, Scalia was named to the All-Big Ten First Team.

Holmes, the 26th overall choice in the WNBA Draft, extended Indiana’s three-year streak of WNBA Draft selections. Scalia was featured in various mock selections leading up to the three-round tournament, but she did not get drafted and did not attend any WNBA training camps.

Scalia, a former Minnesota transfer, helped Indiana go to the Sweet 16 for the third time in four years. The Hoosiers finished 26-6 overall and 15-3 in Big Ten play, earning the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Teri Moren and the Hoosiers reloaded this offseason after Scalia, Holmes, and reserve forward Arielle Wisne all graduated. Indiana has added a pair of transfers: Tennessee senior forward Karoline Striplin and Penn State junior guard Shay Ciezki. Three Indiana starters (Chloe Moore-McNeil, Sydney Parrish, and Yarden Garzon) return, as do many key bench players (Lexus Bargesser, Lilly Meister, Julianna LaMendola, Lenee Beaumont, Sharnecce Currie-Jelks).
