Gerrit Cole’s latest words on Tuesday will please New York Yankees fans.
Cole is continuing to recover from an elbow ailment that has kept him out all season. On Tuesday, he participated in live batting practice at Yankee Stadium, throwing to two Yankees players. He even reached 96 mph with his fastball before being ordered to slow it down.
Gerrit Cole said he hit 96 mph during his live BP today. Matt Blake told him to cool it down, so he had to ease off a little bit. But Cole said that’s a good sign at this stage.

Cole aims to return in mid-June. When asked if returning in June was conceivable, he remarked on Tuesday that he “wouldn’t rule it out.”

The Yankees have opened the season with a 33-16 record, the best in the American League. They’ve accomplished it all without Cole.
Yankees fans are already pleased with how their squad has fared this season. Bringing Cole back to bolster the pitching rotation would build on the season’s already promising start.
