Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland has officially announced the signing of Christian Anderson Jr. to an Athletic Scholarship Agreement for the Red Raiders’ next season. Anderson, an Atlanta, Georgia native, will enter as a freshman for the 2024-25 season after playing at Oak Hill Academy last year, where he averaged 19.1 points and 4.6 assists per game and was nominated as a McDonald’s All-American.
Standing at 6-foot-1, Anderson is rated a four-star recruit by 247Sports and a three-star by ESPN and Rivals. He had a notable high school career, also playing at The Lovett School in Georgia before finishing at Oak Hill. In his final high school season, Anderson shot 45.2 percent from beyond the arc. Initially committed to Michigan, he also played in the Nike EYBL circuit and internationally with Germany’s national team.
At The Lovett School, Anderson averaged 23.7 points per game, accumulating 2,038 career points. During his junior year, he averaged 26.1 points and 4.1 assists per game, including three games with over 40 points. His sophomore season saw him set a Georgia High School record with 861 points (averaging 29.7 ppg.), including a career-high of 51 points.
“Texas Tech is a place that has a great culture and coaching which will allow me to be my best self,” Anderson said during his commitment on 247Sports’ YouTube channel.
Anderson is ranked No. 101 overall in the 2024 class by 247Sports and was the highest-ranked unsigned player. His eight finalists included Texas Tech, Florida, Stanford, Tulane, Fresno State, and three professional options: Alba Berlin, Wurzburg, and Rasta Vechta. He has also played for Team Melo and Team CP3 during the summers, leading Team CP3 with 16.0 points per game in 2022. Internationally, he averaged 14 points, 2.1 assists, and 2.4 steals per game in the FIBA U18 European Championship and was named MVP of the FIBA U16 European Championship after leading Germany to the Division B title.
Anderson is the fifth player to sign with the Red Raiders this offseason, joining Leon Horner III, Elijah Hawkins, Federiko Federiko, and Kevin Overton. Horner signed on May 9 after playing at Dynamic Prep and Frisco Memorial, while Hawkins joined last week after averaging 7.5 assists per game in his junior season at Minnesota. Overton played his freshman season at Drake, and Federiko spent the past two seasons at Pitt.
The Red Raiders are coming off a successful season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament and tying for third in the Big 12 standings in McCasland’s first year as head coach. They finished with a 23-11 record, marking their 17th 20-win season in program history and their sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last eight tournaments.
