Jordan Poyer, who left the Buffalo Bills after seven years, still holds quarterback Josh Allen in high regard.
Poyer returned to Buffalo on May 19 to play in former teammate Micah Hyde’s charity softball game, and he used the chance to address the audience. While thanking the fans who backed him during his seven seasons in Buffalo, the Miami Dolphins safety made a statement about Allen that he recognized could be contentious.
“I loved every moment of it,” Poyer said of his tenure with the Bills. “Sorry we couldn’t get it done, but you have the league’s best quarterback. I realize it might go viral, but that’s fine.

Jordan Poyer’s New Allegiance
While Poyer has never been hesitant about expressing his admiration for Allen, the assertion grabbed some notice because he currently plays with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
“Not Jordan Poyer having Tua as his QB now but still saying Josh Allen [is] the best QB in the league,” a fan posted to X.
Poyer has also stated unequivocally that previous allegiances will be irrelevant when the clubs face off twice next season. On an April 22 podcast with former Bills center Eric Wood, Poyer stated he would not hesitate to lay a huge hit on Allen if they met in the open field.
“Absolutely,” Poyer replied. “I’m playing football.”
Poyer has also expressed his admiration for the Dolphins franchise, stating that he has seen the team grow throughout his time in Buffalo and is thrilled to be a part of it again.
“Obviously, I’ve been in the AFC East for seven years, so I’ve been able to watch them grow as a football team,” Poyer said on SiriusXM NFL Radio on April 10. “I know quite a few people on that squad who have helped me with my transition, but I’m just focusing on Mike. I appreciate him both as a coach and as a person. His off-field journey has had a similar impact on me and my own story. So, all of that came into play; obviously, I lived in South Florida during the offseason, which made things easier, but all of that factored into my decision to come down to Miami.
Changing Secondary in Buffalo
After All-Pro teammates Poyer and Hyde dominated the safety position in Buffalo for the previous seven seasons, the Bills’ secondary will look dramatically different in 2024. With Poyer dismissed in March and Hyde becoming an unrestricted free agent, the team is expected to rely on returning veteran Taylor Rapp and free agent signing Mike Edwards, with second-round rookie Cole Bishop also in the mix.
Hyde has also left the door open for a possible return. Speaking to reporters on May 16 when he returned to Buffalo for his charity event, the veteran safety said that he is only evaluating two alternatives for next season.
“It’s Bills or retire,” Hyde told Sal Capaccio of WGR 550.
