Texas Tech Set To Land Another Top Commitment From Big 12 rival

The Texas Tech football school is allegedly entertaining Mikal Harrison-Pilot, an intriguing transfer receiver who played at Houston last season.

The Texas Tech football roster is basically set for the 2024 season. However, when the opportunity to add more talent arrives, Joey McGuire and his team will undoubtedly consider all options.

Mikal Harrison-Pilot, a Houston transfer wide receiver, is allegedly visiting Texas Tech this week. In fact, Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reports that Harrison-Pilot may already be in Lubbock to see what the Red Raiders have to offer.

At first glance, this may not appear to be a significant shift. Harrison-Pilot got limited time as a true freshman for Houston in 2023.

He played in only four games (allowing him to redshirt), and he caught no passes or accumulated any statistics. Furthermore, he recorded 14 plays, 12 of which were on special teams.

At the moment, 247Sports ranks him as the portal’s No. 491 overall transfer. He is also ranked as the No. 85 wide receiver in the portal.

However, this is a guy that came to Houston with high expectations. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2023, the No. 193 player in the country and the No. 35 player in Texas.

As a high school prospect (from Temple, Texas), he received offers from Houston, California, TCU, Texas, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas Tech, and a number of other programs.

This is unlikely to be an immediate impact transfer, but rather one in which Tech hopes to invest and see evolve into a contributor in the future. However, when the opportunity to recruit a guy with Harrison-Pilot’s physical skill emerges, it is worth considering, and the Red Raiders appear to be doing just that.
