Marquez Valdes-Scantling $30 Million WR Breaks Silence on Joining Bills

On May 14, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported that wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who formerly played for the Kansas City Chiefs, is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Buffalo Bills.
MVS took to X, formerly Twitter, to express his excitement at having the opportunity to play with Bills quarterback Josh Allen after previously playing with Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay and Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.

“Good things come to good people!” Earned, not given. Prayers and no shortcuts! “Thankful for the journey,” he wrote.

MVS Had a Roller Coaster of a Journey With the Chiefs

Valdes-Scantling received his first large NFL contract with the Chiefs in March 2022, for three years and $30 million.

Unfortunately, MVS did not live up to the contract offered to him by Kansas City.

His best performance in a Chiefs uniform came against the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2023 AFC Championship Game, when he caught 6 passes on 8 targets for 116 yards and one touchdown. Aside from that game, he only had one more 100-yard performance in Kansas City.

Though Valdes-Scantling might have rejoined the Chiefs later in the offseason on a lesser deal, the arrivals of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in free agency and Xavier Worthy in the Draft left no room for MVS on the squad given the aforementioned players’ skill sets.

Twitter/X Reacted to MVS Signing With the Bills

Users on X reacted to MVS’s partnership with Buffalo.

“You made some of the biggest catches in the biggest times. “You came through when it counted and paved the way for the Chiefs to go back-to-back,” one person remarked. “Wish you luck in Buffalo!”

“So, can I get this straight? The Bills traded with the Chiefs for Xavier Worthy and drafted Keon Coleman. And then said, “Why don’t we sign MVS?” Let’s see how this turns out. Another user wrote.

“Bill is plainly seeking for a field stretcher. MVS, Chase Claypool, and KJ Hamler will compete at camp. Michael F. Florio from NFL Media writes. “Coleman, Shakir, and Samuel remain top three, and all are currently strong fantasy values! Furthermore, Kincaid remains a key target.”

“This makes no sense. Another user added, “Two franchises with long histories of what they want in a WR let MVS go.” “The Bills let rid of Diggs and believe that MVS will cover the void? Do they know anything that the Packers and Chiefs don’t? I understand it’s a one-year contract, but this “fit” is perplexing.

“My first instinct was that this is bad news for the Chiefs because their best option at wide receiver is a rookie who has never played in the NFL. “Then I remembered Pat Mahomes could throw to a cardboard cutout and make it look like prime Jerry Rice,” another person said.
