Jaylen Harrell, a four-star Virginia Tech men’s basketball recruit, has committed to the team at the end of May.
Mike Young, Virginia Tech’s men’s basketball coach, has been quite active on the recruiting road in recent months.
The veteran coach had to go through the transfer portal to assemble a group for the 2024-25 season after a major exodus from Blacksburg following an NIT loss to Ohio State in March.
Young is assembling a squad that includes some extremely tough athletes, giving his team a different look than it had this season.
He is also aiming to make progress with recruiting in the Class of 2025, and he has received some encouraging news on a four-star guard.

Virginia Tech recruit Jaylen Harrell sets commitment date
Jaylen Harrell, a four-star shooting guard from the Boston area, announced his top six schools, and Virginia Tech made the list. Alabama, Kansas, Xavier, Rutgers, and Providence all joined them. Harrell spoke with On3 Sports about each institution, and here is what he had to say about Virginia Tech earlier this year.
“Virginia Tech is in my top six because they are a tough program that will always contend, no matter what. They continue to compete even when one of them is down. They have a number of two-way players, which helps to keep the squad balanced. They’re a good shooting program that enjoys getting down the floor. I might fit in with their program because of their toughness and desire to win. I’m building a relationship with coach (Christian) Webster, and we’re planning a visit shortly.”
