Fabrizio Romano, transfer news journalist, has addressed the situation with AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez, who has been linked with a summer move to Bayern Munich to replace Alphonso Davies.
Hernandez has impressed at the San Siro, and it stands to reason that he is now being pursued by even larger clubs throughout Europe, with Bayern perhaps in need of a left-back signing as important player Davies enters the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena.
The Canadian international has been a vital part of Bayern’s recent success, and his departure would be a significant loss, albeit Hernandez has demonstrated that he would be an excellent substitute.
Still, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for the latest edition of his Daily Briefing column, Romano played down the speculation, implying that Bayern’s interest in Hernandez has always existed, but that no negotiations are currently underway to sign the France international.
Hernandez transfer talk clarified by Romano
“Theo Hernandez – I recently linked with Bayern, however there are presently no updates on this one. The interest in Hernandez is not new, but there have been no meetings or negotiations between clubs. We’ll see when Alphonso Davies decides on his future with Bayern; it’s still early,” Romano remarked.
Bayern will undoubtedly need to handle the left-back position shortly, however it’s possible that, despite the delay, Davies will stay and sign a new contract with the club, eliminating the need to recruit someone like Hernandez.
Milan will undoubtedly attempt to keep as much of this roster together as possible, with players like Hernandez, Rafael Leao, and Christian Pulisic indicating that this is a very promising side that might soon return to its former glory.
