According to one source, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for an experienced wide receiver and have contacted the Seattle Seahawks to see whether D.K. Metcalf is a viable option.
So, if they’re thinking about adding the Seattle star, what would they have to give up to get him? FanSided’s John Buhler proposed a strange trade scenario in which Pittsburgh gets Metcalf in return for several choices and their current top wideout.
In Buhler’s proposed trade, the Steelers get Metcalf in return for a 2025 first-round pick, a 2025 third-round pick, a 2026 second-round pick, a 2026 fourth-round pick, and George Pickens.
“The reason to do this move if you are the Steelers is to get out of the frustrating 9-8 to 11-6 quagmire that head coach Mike Tomlin seems to find great comfort in,” Buhler said. “By acquiring a wide receiver of Metcalf’s caliber, Pittsburgh could legitimately compete for division supremacy with Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Cleveland. His rapport with Wilson may help the Steelers reach a 12- or 13-win ceiling.
Pickens has two years remaining on his rookie deal and seems to be the team’s top receiver heading into 2024.
While Metcalf is an established NFL talent, it’s difficult to picture the Steelers handing up their top weapon and as many picks as Buhler anticipates for just one wide receiver.
