Kevin Durant’s superhuman abilities appear to have been underutilized by the Thunder, Warriors, and Nets, the three clubs he previously played for before his move to Phoenix.
That is the perspective of Suns General Manager James Jones.
During the Suns’ season-ending press conference on Wednesday, Jones stated that his team will be the first to maximize Durant’s potential.
“A constant focus for us is to figure out how to maximize Kevin Durant,” Jones said of his team’s offseason goal. “No one has done it yet.” I believe we will be the first team to do it. Because if we can maximize him, we can optimize our entire roster, and we’ll be a great team.”
Jones confessed that the Suns “couldn’t get on the same page” in the 2023-24 season and “ran out of time” when they discovered out where Durant wasn’t being used effectively, as reported by The Athletic after the Suns were swept by the Timberwolves.
The unusual statements prompted Durant’s former teammate Andre Iguodala to respond on social media with a photo of the two celebrating one of their two championships together. While Iguodala did not react from his own X account, he did ask the following question via the “Point Forward” podcast, which he co-hosts with former NBA star Evan Turner.

Others on social media have also criticized Jones for his views.
Some feel Jones was referring to Durant’s last stint in Brooklyn, which ended in disaster with the star forward asking a move following a rumored disagreement with the team. Because there’s no way he’s referring to the Warriors or Thunder, where Durant was extremely successful.
