Breaking: Duke Basketball Make Contact To Sign Top Scoring Guard

Duke’s basketball staff has contacted a prolific mid-major scoring guard.

With the last few players entering the transfer portal during the last week, Duke basketball appears to be focusing on prospective targets to help fill out next year’s squad.

After gaining the commitments of two four-star transfer forwards, Maliq Brown and Mason Gillis, Jon Scheyer appears to be looking for one more impact transfer, this time at the guard position.

The Blue Devils have yet to find a match for higher-level transfers like Koby Brea and Lamont Butler. However, they may now be looking for an experienced player who can come off the bench.

On that point, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported on Wednesday that Duke has contacted UTSA transfer Jordan Ivy-Curry.

Ivy-Curry had committed to play for Virginia Tech earlier in the spring, but he dropped out on Monday.

According to Rothstein, after his re-entry into the portal, the 6-foot-3 guard has received interest from numerous additional institutions, including Florida State, Grand Canyon, Kansas, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M, and UCF.

The Texas native played college basketball for four seasons, three at UTSA and one at Pacific. He began his career at UTSA, where he spent two seasons before moving to Pacific. One year later, he rejoined the Roadrunners.

In 21 games last season, Ivy-Curry averaged 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while shooting 38.7 percent from three. He came off the bench in every game, averaging little over 27 minutes per night.

With the Blue Devils in need of an experienced bench guard to supplement the anticipated starting backcourt of Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster, the former Roadrunner might be a key addition to the Duke basketball rotation.

Jon Scheyer, in his third year as head coach, still has three available scholarships to work with for the remainder of the offseason.
