All-American Duke Forward Lands Two-year Deal With Another Team

The University of Missouri men’s basketball team expanded its roster on Monday, signing Mark Mitchell, a two-year starter at Duke.

CBS Sports ranked Mitchell as the No. 7 transfer in the nation, and he started 67 of 68 games over his two seasons at Duke. The 6-foot-9 forward scored 700 points for the Blue Devils, averaging 10.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Mitchell also led Duke to 54 wins in two seasons, including 29 ACC victories, one ACC Tournament victory, and two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a spot in the 2024 Elite Eight.

“Mark is a proven winner with top skill sets on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court,” said Dennis Gates, Head Coach of Whitten Family Men’s Basketball. “He will thrive in our system, allowing him to exhibit his versatility as a player. Mark is a powerful player who excels at getting to the free-throw line, making him a matchup nightmare. He has superior ACC experience, and his two-year production speaks for itself. We’re excited to have Mark join our Mizzou family as we seek to win championships.

Mitchell, a native of Kansas City, Kansas, averaged 11.6 points per game as a sophomore in 2023-24, ranking second at Duke with 6.0 rebounds, 24 blocks, and 159 free throw attempts. Mitchell was named to the Julius Erving Award Watch List, which recognizes the nation’s best small forward, and he scored in double digits in 21 of 33 games, including five 20-point outings and three double-doubles. Overall, he led the club in scoring seven times in 2023-24 and in rebounds six times.

Prior to joining Duke, Mitchell was a McDonald’s All-American in 2022, scoring a game-high 19 points in the annual all-star game. Mitchell, ranked as the nation’s No. 13 recruit, averaged 17.6 points and 6.3 rebounds as a senior at Sunrise Christian Academy.

Mitchell is the Tigers’ fourth signing of the spring transfer window, following Jacob Crews, Tony Perkins, and Marques Warrick. The four players make up the nation’s No. 6 transfer class and will join the No. 4 freshmen class, which signed in November as the newest members of the Mizzou program.
