AC Milan has made a verbal offer to Lille defender Tiago Santos ahead of the summer transfer window, we can exclusively report.
While much of the media attention around Milan is focused on the search for a new head coach, management must also scout out prospective transactions and opportunities to strengthen the squad in preparation for the summer.
One of the roles being considered is full-back, specifically on the right side, where there appear to be more questions than answers at the moment.
The current
While the purchase of a right-back may not appear to be a priority moving into the summer due to the other positions that must be addressed, Geoffrey Moncada and his team frequently move in unexpected ways, such as the acquisition of Filippo Terracciano in January.
Looking at the current squad, we begin with Davide Calabria. The captain is under contract until June 2025, and talks about renewing it are reportedly underway, but there are rumors that he wants his salary doubled in light of some questionable performances.
Alessandro Florenzi’s contract expires on June 30, 2025, and it appears that Milan has yet to make a final choice on the former Roma player, who joined the Rossoneri in August 2021, despite his considerable pay (about €3 million net per season, with no Growth Decree).
Pierre Kalulu is one of the choices for the right side of the defence, but it should be noted that Stefano Pioli has switched his preferred position to centre-back, and he is failing to stay healthy, leading to speculation that the club may sell him for a profit.
Alex Jimenez has largely played for the Primavera this season and is out until June, but he is also regarded a long-term right-back alternative, especially given that trustworthy sources have spoken about a deal to make his loan from Real Madrid permanent. He might, however, join Serie C’s U23 team.
Then there’s Filippo Terracciano, who arrived from Hellas Verona for roughly €4.5 million, but he hasn’t been seen much lately as he struggles to find opportunities. The 20-year-old is viewed primarily as a wild card. He can play on the right, where he is most comfortable, but he can also play left-back, centre-back, and even midfield.
