Sunderland are looking to sign Birmingham City’s Paik Seung-ho this summer, according to Football Insider sources.
Seung-ho, 27, joined St Andrew’s in January on a two-and-a-half-year contract following a three-year stint with K-League club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motor.
The Black Cats reportedly pursued the South Korean international’s signing last winter and conducted negotiations with Seung-ho about a prospective deal, but he chose to join Birmingham City instead.
However, Football Insider has learned from reliable sources that Sunderland is still very interested in signing the midfielder and is planning a new pursuit.
Sunderland revive interest in Birmingham star Paik Seung-ho
He has been a regular for the Blues since his arrival, starting 13 of the 16 Championship games he has been available for, including the last nine.
The defensive midfielder is a graduate of Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy and has appeared twice for the club’s B squad.
After failing to break into the La Liga giants’ senior squad, he has spent time in Europe with Girona, Darmstadt, and Peralada.
He has 15 senior appearances for South Korea and scored his country’s only goal in a 4-1 loss to Brazil in the 2022 World Cup’s round of 16.
Seung-ho has primarily played as a defensive midfielder for Birmingham this season, but has also been used as a central and offensive midfielder throughout his career.
Sunderland are 13th in the Championship table following their 1-0 loss at Millwall on Saturday afternoon (20 April).
They face 15th-place Watford on Saturday afternoon (27 April) in their penultimate game of the season.
In other news, Leeds United will have to sell star players after a ‘devastating’ financial update.
