Leicester City’s transfer preparations appear to be progressing behind the scenes.
While Enzo Maresca’s team struggle for Championship promotion, it appears Leicester chiefs are planning their summer recruits ahead of the transfer window reopening.
The Foxes appeared to be in prime position to make an immediate return to the Premier League, sitting at the top of the table, two points ahead of second-placed Ipswich and four ahead of third-placed Leeds United.
Two victories in their last three games will be enough to mathematically secure a top-two finish, which they might achieve on Tuesday if Leeds lose to Middlesbrough this evening.
Leicester appear to have already identified a transfer target if they are to be promoted.
Leicester City linked with signing James McAtee
Maresca attempted to buy James McAtee last summer, and he even visited Seagrave right before the transfer deadline, according to LeicestershireLive.
McAtee, who is committed to Manchester City, eventually returned to Sheffield United on loan after a good season there during the 2022/23 promotion campaign.
However, it appears like he will become available again in the summer, as the Blades are poised to be relegated to the second tier.
According to Alan Nixon, Leicester have revived their interest in McAtee, and if they win promotion, they will have a decent chance of ultimately signing him.
Pep Guardiola a big fan of James McAtee
If City is able to complete the transaction, McAtee would be an excellent addition.
Pep Guardiola is a huge supporter of the left-footed playmaker, and after giving him his Premier League debut, the Manchester City manager stated: “It is an incredible investment for the club and the future.” Very delighted, especially given the little minutes James McAtee played.”
He went on to say, “All of us we believe, we have a good generation of four, five or six players with quite a good potential to help us.”
Since those comments in 2021, McAtee has honed his abilities at Bramall Lane and has looked every bit the part of a top-flight player in a struggling team that is currently at the bottom of the league.
The 2002-born player has nine goals to his name, and in a better squad, he could easily quadruple those totals.
