Respected Italian sports analyst Riccardo Trevisani has stated that Samuel Chuwkueze is not a bad player, but has challenged him to begin justifying the transfer amount AC Milan paid for his services last summer.
The former Villarreal player joined the Rossoneri for 28 million euros, including bonuses, a cost that is considered extravagant for Italian Serie A clubs.
Chukwueze struggled in his first six months with AC Milan, prompting speculation that the seven-time European champions might transfer him in the summer to limit their losses.
The 24-year-old has unable to break into the starting lineup, having started thirteen games out of a possible forty-six in all competitions, with manager Stefano Pioli preferring United States star Christian Pulisic as his first choice right winger.
AC Milan supporters have begun to see flashes of Chukwueze’s abilities in recent weeks, prompting requests for him to be inserted into the starting lineup following his strong performances since mid-March.
Speaking ahead of the AS Roma versus AC Milan Europa League quarterfinal, Trevisani was cited as stating by Milan News: “No one here has ever stated that he is poor; I said that the money they placed for him, I would have put for Okafor, because he is a very strong player.
“Chukwueze is a good player, but he’s not worth that much money right now,” I said. Overall, he played 1300 minutes and scored three goals; do you believe this is the correct season to declare he’s worth all of that money?
“He’s not a player who shoots, dribbles, and shoots. and he needs to accomplish a lot more than that to justify the money he was paid.”
Chukwueze has made 29 appearances for AC Milan, scoring three goals and assisting twice.
