Nottingham Forest could be without three key players for their Premier League game against Everton on Sunday afternoon.
The significance of the Goodison Park duel cannot be overstated. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team are just one spot and one point behind Everton.
Crucially, Sean Dyche’s side has a game in hand on Forest, which might be crucial come the conclusion of the season.
Meanwhile, at the bottom of the standings, Luton Town meet Brentford, while Burnley play Sheffield United. With multiple relegation battles looming, this weekend might be critical.
Nottingham Forest’s injury latest ahead of Premier League clash v Everton
Everton will be hoping to complete a league double against their opponents after Dwight McNeil propelled the Blues to three points at the City Ground in December.
Forest are also suffering with injuries ahead of their trip to Merseyside. Taiwo Awoniyi and Anthony Elanga are the biggest concerns, and Espirito Santo provided an update on both following Forest’s 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
“We’ll have to wait and see,” he told The Nottingham Post.
“Elanga and Awoniyi are progressing individually, but they were not available today. “Let us wait for the next one.”
Furthermore, according to injury expert Ben Dinnery, Willy Boly is still out and will miss the Goodison Park game.
Everton injury latest ahead of Nottingham Forest on Sunday
Dyche also has injury concerns ahead of Sunday. Jarrad Branthwaite was pulled off in the second half against Chelsea. The 21-year-old’s possible absence might allow Michael Keane to earn his first start in 2024.
Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson were both evacuated from Stamford Bridge. Speaking after the game, the Everton manager expressed concern over Patterson’s fitness.
“Jarrad, we hope, is minor, but we have to wait and see,” he went on to say. “We don’t know if Shay (Coleman) has injured his groin, and Patto’s injury appears to be more serious. We’ll have to wait and see if it’s a hamstring issue; let it settle tomorrow.”
Ben Godfrey may also return to the fray as a result.
Regardless of injuries, Everton cannot afford to lose this Sunday. A defeat is an unimaginable scenario that may send the Blues to the relegation zone. Hopefully, Dominic Calvert-Lewin will return from his absence at Stamford Bridge and offer a focal point for the Toffees’ attack.
The 27-year-old has recently recovered his form and might play a key role between now and the end of the season.
