Milan could miss out on €50m star as rivals push to complete deal

Despite AC Milan’s long-standing interest in Lille attacker Jonathan David, Napoli is moving closer to signing him.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli has picked David as a successor for Victor Osimhen, who may depart the club during the summer transfer window.

After considering several options, the Azzurri have begun serious talks with Lille and the player’s entourage, and they are prepared to make the trade work.

Lille had requested €50 million for David, but Napoli has so far refused to pay more than €35 million, including performance-based bonuses. He is out of contract in 2025, therefore Lille will be unable to negotiate a favorable deal.

He is thought to be particularly interested in Napoli, having been sold on the idea. They are also willing to pay him €3 million per season on a five-year contract, but they have yet to discuss a release clause and image rights, which frequently pose issues in current transfers.

David has been on Milan’s striker list for a long time and is considered the more cost-effective choice over players such as Joshua Zirkzee and Viktor Gyokeres.
