Dougie Freedman has demonstrated his ability to secure a number of transfer deals for Crystal Palace.
The Glaswegian can handle pricey deals like the £22 million agreement for Cheick Doucoure and the £26 million signing of Matheus Franca.
Crystal Palace’s Director of Football can also successfully negotiate the free transfer market, having previously brought Vicente Guaita, Gary Cahill, Sam Johnstone, and Jefferson Lerma to Selhurst Park for free.
According to sources in Italy, Dougie Freedman hopes to negotiate another free move for Crystal Palace this summer.
Crystal Palace want to sign Wilfred Ndidi
Crystal Palace lost one Wilfried last summer when Zaha moved to Galatasaray, but the Ivorian’s namesake – albeit without the i – is now being pursued in Wilfred Ndidi.
According to Tutto Juve, Juventus hopes to sign the Nigerian international when his contract with Leicester City expires this summer.
According to the Italian news outlet, West Ham, Everton, Sevilla, Getafe, and Fenerbahce are all interested in signing Ndidi, who Tim Sherwood has described as a “world class” footballer.
So far this season, the player from Lagos has made 28 Championship appearances for Leicester City, scoring two goals and contributing five assists.
Dougie Freedman could strike gold
In our opinion, this could turn out to be a classic Freedman move, potentially the standout signing of the 2024 summer transfer window if a free transfer can be arranged. It’s worth recalling that Ndidi was widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s top performers during his seven seasons with Leicester City. There were even rumors of Real Madrid’s interest in him back in 2021, and Arsenal, Manchester United, and PSG were reportedly keen on signing him at that time, according to All Nigeria Soccer.
Having amassed 192 appearances in the Premier League before dropping down to the Championship last summer, Ndidi, who is still only 27, presents an enticing prospect for Freedman to secure on a free transfer. With his ability to both score and create goals, as well as his proficiency in winning back possession, Ndidi, valued as a £50m midfielder on his best days, could bring significant upside to any team.
It’s worth noting that Leicester City initially brought in Ndidi to fill the void left by N’Golo Kante’s departure. Keep a close watch on this situation, as Ndidi could potentially replace Will Hughes at Crystal Palace this summer; Hughes, along with seven other players at Selhurst Park, is set to become a free agent in July.
