AC Milan will acquire a new central defender this summer, and Torino’s Alessandro Buongiorno is high on their wish list, according to reports.
According to today’s edition of La Repubblica (via MilanNews), a meeting with Torino is arranged to discuss Buongiorno. The Granata captain’s profile has long been popular among Milan management, and they will attempt again after being turned down in January.
He is a profile that ticks a lot of boxes: he would strengthen the Italian presence in the squad, which is also important in terms of UEFA squad lists, and above all, he is a profile that suits the club’s philosophy because he is young, knows the league, and can grow even more.
Buongiorno’s asking price starts at €35 million, and it should be noted that Torino president Urbano Cairo approved his sale to Atalanta last summer, a deal that did not go through owing to the Italy international’s wish to stay but demonstrated a willingness to negotiate.
According to the source, Milan wants to conclude the operation as soon as possible, preferably before Euro 2024, to minimize the risk of the price tag growing or generating auctions involving teams prepared to pay more.
