The LSU Football program will lose redshirt freshman wide receiver Khai Prean during the Spring Transfer Portal period.
Khai Prean, a wide receiver, is the first player from LSU to enter the transfer portal. The Redshirt Freshman receiver from Belle Rosa, Louisiana, had no playing time in 2023 despite being a three-star recruit and the state’s 17th-ranked athlete. Prean joined the transfer site with a no-contact tag, indicating that he has likely already decided on a destination with four years of eligibility remaining.
The move is not surprising given that Prean was unlikely to play a significant part in 2024, with Kyren Lacy, Aaron Anderson, Shelton Sampson Jr., and Chris Hilton Jr. anticipated to enjoy bigger responsibilities and newcomers Zavion Thomas and CJ Daniels expected to debut.
With 88 scholarship players, the LSU Football program exceeded the 85-player maximum for the Spring Transfer season. After losing Prean and Jaxon Howard, the Tigers are only one scholarship over the limit. The Tigers will have to drop one more scholarship, plus another for each other player brought in through the transfer site.
Prean will most certainly transfer to a program outside of the SEC, where he will be given immediate playing time. Tulane, where Prean’s high school friend Shazz Preston transferred earlier this offseason, could be a good fit. Prean demonstrated his powers at the Spring Game with a 64-yard touchdown:

Don’t be shocked by departures this Spring
Any LSU players who enter this Spring transfer portal have presumably lost position fights and are seeking for a school where they can play. LSU needed to shed scholarship players this spring, particularly as they sought to add defensive line depth. Any names we see entering the Portal this spring will be either younger players looking for instant playing time or second or third-year players who have yet to advance up the depth chart.
