After a number of transfer reports involving Crystal Palace surfaced, one target for Oliver Glasner has been questioned about the gossip.
The Austrian will be overjoyed with his team following Sunday’s thrilling 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.
However, Dougie Freedman still needs to fill voids in the squad, such as upgrades for Jeffrey Schlupp and Joel Ward.
Crystal Palace has expressed interest in one potential center-back candidate for the upcoming season.
Danilho Doekhi leaves door open to Crystal Palace move
According to Football Insider, Danilho Doekhi impressed Oliver Glasner during his time managing in the Bundesliga, and the Salzburg manager wants Freedman to sign the Union Berlin No. 5 this summer.
We are anticipated to compete with Fulham for the Dutchman’s signature.
German news site BILD has now directly queried Doekhi about Crystal Palace and Fulham’s interest, and the central defender did not precisely dismiss the rumours, leaving the door open for a summer transfer.
The 25-year-old stated, “I’m concentrating on my final games with the club. My entire attention is on that. We’ll see what happens over the summer, but for now, I’m focused on Union.”
Doekhi has made 19 Bundesliga appearances this season and scored two goals.
According to BILD, Union Berlin values the man from Rotterdam at €17 million (£15 million).
Oliver Glasner needs a new central defender
Following the injury to Chris Richards and Marc Guehi, Ward and Nathaniel Clyne have performed admirably at centre-back.
However, this is not a sustainable option, and we will undoubtedly find out next season if the tactic of playing full-backs as central defenders becomes more common.
As a result, Glasner requires a center-back.
To be honest, the 49-year-old and Freedman appear to be well aware of this, given their links to numerous central defenders, including Ronnie Edwards, Cristhian Mosquera, and Doekhi.
Hopefully, additional depth can be added to the centre-back department this summer, as that area has become increasingly essential since Glasner implemented his five-at-the-back system.
