‘Top manager’: Journalist claims 47-year-old has emerged as possible replacement for Pioli

While Stefano Pioli’s situation as head coach remains uncertain, a fresh name has emerged as a possible replacement if he is fired.

The second leg of AC Milan’s Europa League quarter-final against Roma on Thursday night is critical to the club’s trophy chances for 2023-24, but it may also have an impact on Stefano Pioli’s future.

According to this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the ownership would not be pleased with an exit in the competition’s final eight against a team 14 points below them in the Serie A rankings.

According to Daniel Speranza of SpazioMilan, there is a’very popular’ name among Milan’s leadership: Marco Rose.

He is presently the coach of RB Leipzig, and his contract with the German club runs until 2025.

There has been ‘no direct contact’ between the parties, but it is undoubtedly a ‘lead to monitor’ in the event that the Rossoneri decide to leave Pioli after nearly a decade.

Rose is 47 years old and has coached three Bundesliga clubs: Borussia Monchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund, and currently Leipzig. In 160 top-flight games as a head coach, he has 91 victories, 27 draws, and 42 loses, for an average of 1.88 points.

Leipzig’s style of play under Rose, who prefers to use a 4-4-2 system with a strong emphasis on pressing, counter-pressing, and quick attacking play, has earned them praise.

Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani spoke with DAZN last night, where he was asked directly about Pioli’s future and whether evaluations had already been conducted.

“There is a constant presence in the spotlight. Since the start of the season, criticism of the coach has grown with each match he loses. This year, he has performed admirably, and we are now focused on the remainder of the season,” he stated.

“He is a wonderful person with whom we get along well, and I consider ourselves fortunate to be working with him. A coach cannot be judged just on a single match, but can be evaluated over the course of a season. We will see how the season concludes, but we are confident.”

In summary, Furlani did not rule out the possibility that after the sums are calculated at the end of the season, they may feel it is time for a change.
